Things You Must Do in Hawaii

HawaiiA Hawaiian vacation is a dream for many people. Imagine enjoying the warmth of the islands, the exotic flowers and food. But once you are there, what are the things you must do and see?

On their first visit to Hawaii, most people head to Oahu and the city of Honolulu. This is a great place to start exploring this fascinating string of islands and there is a lot to see in Honolulu and throughout the island.

Go to Pearl Harbor. This is an obvious place to go when you are visiting, but it really is a must do. There is so much history to be learned here. Get there early in the morning so you can be on one of the first boats out to see the Arizona Memorial. Not only will you avoid the crowds, but the atmosphere is better when there are fewer people. If you go early, this visit will take a half day or less.

Hike to the top of Diamond Head. For stunning views and great pictures to send back home, you need to climb to the top of Diamond Head. The trail is relatively easy, rough and rocky in spots but very doable for almost anyone. There are a few sets of stairs along the way so take it slow if you aren’t in the best of shape. However, once reach the top any strain of the walk will be forgotten! This is an activity that is best done in the morning before the heat of the day.

Pick a Pearl. Yes, this is a very touristy thing to do, but it is so fun! There are pick a pearl places all throughout Waikiki so you won’t have trouble finding one. You pick a mollusk and the person helping you does a fun little ceremony before you open it. Inside you will find a beautiful pearl. Pearls come in a variety of colors so it is a mystery what you will get. Here is a tip: they will want to set the pearl in a jewelry setting for you. This is the way they make their money. Although you might want to wait and have it set when you get home, go ahead and get it done while you are in Hawaii. Odds are you won’t have the pearl set in jewelry when you get home and this way you will have a wonderful reminder of your trip!

Eat fresh pineapple! You cannot leave paradise without eating the fruit they are famous for. Pineapple that has been picked ripe is so much better than anything else! While you are sampling the pineapple, try some of the other island tastes as well.

There are many things to do and see in Hawaii, and these things are just a few. Enjoy yourself and don’t feel pressured to pack your days with activities. The best days in Hawaii are spent on the beach enjoying the warm water and soaking up some sun!
